Box Score

SAN ANTONIO — As Jack Wolf stepped off the playing field in the second half Saturday, head coach Que Willis made a point to shake sophomore's hand, commenting on his game as "impressive work."

Wolf (So., Richardson, Texas) spearheaded St. Mary's 5-0 blowout over Newman Saturday at St. Mary's intramural field, scoring a record-tying four goals for the game.

Wolf tied for the No. 2 spot in the Rattlers' single-game goals record with his explosive four goals against the Jets, becoming the first Rattler to do so since the 2001 season. The record for most goals in a single game is five, set by Marco Garcia in the 1990 season.

"It was a blast," said Wolf of his four-goal showing. "I just got a lot of support from my teammates. They gave me the ball and I just put in the back of the net."

The impressive game marked the Rattlers' first win on the season, improving their record to 1-6 and gave them a clean, 1-0 start to conference play. The Newman Jets were kept winless on the season, dropping to 0-7 and 0-1 in conference play.

Wolf jumped from the first whistle of the game, scoring two goals under 10 minutes. His first came in the 8-minute mark and his second in the 9-minute mark off a well-placed cross from Ryan Hoskins (Fr., San Antonio) that Wolf struck sliding in for the goal.

By halftime Wolf had his first career hat trick after he scored this third goal at the 38-mintue mark off a shot 15 yards out that hit the top post and bounced in.

With three goal-celebrations down, Wolf had one more in him in the second half.

The 58-minute mark saw Wolf's final celebration after he dribbled up right to the Jets' keeper, crossed, and sunk it in at close range.

With four goals in a single game, Wolf tied his season goal total recorded as a freshman last season Saturday and now sits with six goals this season.

The Rattlers had one more fire in them before the final buzzer as Rattler Juan Valdez netted the final goal with eight minutes left in the game after beating the keeper with a cross for a wide-open shot.

St. Mary's was effective all around Saturday, holding the Jets to five shots. Patrick Kasperitis (RS-Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) notched the shutout, recording four saves to improve to 1-6 on the season.

The Rattlers recorded 16 shots with 10 shot on goal. Wolf led with five shots, all shot on goal, followed by Valdez with three shots, which were also all shot on goal. Armando Macias (So., San Antonio) totaled three shots with one shot on goal and Alexis Santamaria  (So., San Antonio) recorded two shots as well as two assists.

With their first conference game and victory under their cleats, the Rattlers look to take their win and move forward.

"We've been putting in more heart and effort," said Wolf. "We practice 100 percent and when the game comes we expect a result. We are just going to keep going and fighting."

The Rattlers will remain home to face provisional Heartland Conference member Rogers State at 12 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's.
