Four Lady Rattlers connect, stunt Eagles on the road

OKLAHOMA CITY — St. Mary's Women's Soccer led an offensive attack against Oklahoma Christian Monday, claiming a 4-1 victory.
 
Four different Rattlers netted against the Eagles, including Lauren Peck (So., San Antonio), Ashlyn Leighton (Sr., Houston), Ronika Cavazos (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) and Brianna Shafer (So., Castroville, Texas).
 
The Rattlers bumped to 4-2 in Heartland Conference play and 7-6-1 overall, holding steady as the No. 3 team in league standings.
 
Half of the Rattlers' four goals were assisted, as Sam Lara (So., San Antonio) guided Leighton for her second goal on the season with a header off a corner kick and Kaitie Kasperitis (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) assisted Cavazos in the 83rd minute.
 
Three of the Rattlers' four goals were scored in the second frame with Shafer punching in the final goal with four minutes left in the game. Shafer became the Rattlers' second-leading scorer with the goal, totaling four on the season.
 
Kasperitis and Lynsie Shaw (So., San Antonio) led with three shots apiece in St. Mary's 19-shot day against the Eagles (2-10-2, 0-4-1 in conference), followed by Cavazos with two.
 
Alyssa Taramona (So., Forney, Texas) and Paola Ostos (Sr., El Paso, Texas) split goalkeeping duties with Ostos gaining the start for the win with two saves. Taramona stepped into the net in the second frame, recording three saves.
 
St. Mary's will head back home for its final three games of the regular season, first playing Texas A&M International at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sigma Beta Chi field.
