GOLDEN, Colo. — The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team suffered its first setback of the season at the hands of a talented Colorado School of Mines team on Saturday evening, falling 3-1 at the Stermole Soccer Stadium in the team's final non-conference game of the season.
 
The Rattlers are 2-1-1headed into Lone Star Conference play, while the Orediggers are 3-1 with back-to-back wins against LSC foes.
 
The Orediggers were aggressive early, taking six shots on goal in the first 30 minutes before Bella Campos found the back of the net in the 35th minute.
 
StMU freshman Kamrynn Martinez (Dallas) scored 75 seconds later, scoring on a 30-yard volley into the upper back corner to knot the match at 1-1 heading into halftime. Martinez has now scored one goal in each of the first four games of the season, becoming the first Rattler since 2014 to score in four consecutive contests. Kristal Williams netted five goals in four games from Sept. 28 through Oct. 11 as a sophomore. Martinez is believed to be the first freshman in StMU history to score in her first four games as a collegian.
 
Colorado School of Mines kept up the pressure in the second half, finding the goal two more times in its 15 shots for the 3-1 victory. The 'Diggers took 31 shots, compared to eight for the Rattlers, and had 10 corners. 
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Molly Lyons (Galveston, Texas) made a career-best 13 saves on the day, as she and freshman Emilee Durante (San Antonio) were the only Rattlers to play the entire game. 
 
The Rattlers remain on the road, playing at Texas A&M International in the conference opener on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Dustdevils are 0-3 on the season, playing two of their three games at home.
