Box Score
ODESSA, Texas — Women's Soccer shutdown Texas-Permian Basin on all fronts Monday, charting its fifth shutout on the season with a 3-0 victory.
Kristal Williams (Fr., Ponder, Texas),
Amy Adkins (Jr., El Paso, Texas) and
Lynsie Shaw (So., San Antonio) all netted for the Rattlers in the win in a strong offensive attack that had St. Mary's total 19 shots on the game.
The Rattlers' defense was just as impressive as the Falcons were only able to stave off three shots on the day, none of which were shot on goal.
With 11 of their 19 shots being on goal, St. Mary's was clearly on its game.
Williams was the first to net for the Rattlers, scoring off a give and go from
Sam Lara (So., San Antonio) in the right side of the box for her third goal on the season in the 26
th minute.
The first frame ended with St. Mary's up 1-0 over the Falcons (2-10, 1-2 in conference) and in common fashion so far this season, the Rattlers lit up in the second.
Adkins scored three minutes into the second frame off an assist from Shaw from close range to put the Rattlers up 2-0. Shaw then took the scoring foot, netting the game's final goal in the 56
th minute assisted by
Leah Snelson (Sr., Dallas). Adkins' and Shaw's goals against the Falcons both marked their first goals on the season.
Now at 29 goals on the season, 21 of which were scored in the second half, the Rattlers are just three goals away from reaching their total goal count from last season.
Goalies
Paola Ostos (Sr., El Paso, Texas) and
Alyssa Taramona (So., Forney, Texas) split the goalkeeping duty against the Falcons, with Ostos playing the first half and Taramona the second.
Lauren Peck led the Rattlers with four shots but was robbed each time as all four were shot on goal. Williams, Adkins,
Ashlyn Leighton (Sr., Houston) and
Montana Montes (Fr., El Paso, Texas) recorded a pair of shots apiece.
With the win, the Rattlers have a commendable 3-1 Heartland Conference record and a 6-5-1 overall record. Although the Rattlers are statistically the No. 3 seed in the league, provisional conference member Lubbock Christian who holds the No. 2 seed is not eligible for postseason play, which would make the Rattlers the No. 2 seed for the championship tournament if they keep pace.
The Rattlers take on conference component Dallas Baptist in their next match at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Dallas.
