Alexis Santamaria was the Rattler to be in St. Mary's shutout victory over Texas-Permian Basin Monday.
Santamaria (So., San Antonio) had a hand in each of the Rattlers' goals in the 2-0 victory, assisting the first goal on the game netted by
Ryan Hoskins (Fr., San Antonio) and then netting his own to close out the game.
Both of the Rattlers' strikes came in the second frame after a stalemate first half. The 60
th minute marked Hoskins' game-winner in his first career goal after taking a pass from Santamaria from the right to the far post for a clear shot into an open net.
Santamaria then went in for an unassisted strike, dribbling into the box to shoot from six yards out to the left side in the 76
th minute. On the season, Santamaria has three goals and a team-high three assists.
As a team the Rattlers contended well with the Falcons (5-7, 1-2 in conference), outshooting them 18 to 13 with seven shots on goal.
Jack Wolf (So., Richardson, Texas) led with a team-high five shots with two shot on goal followed by Santamaria and
Adam Muro (RS-Sr., San Antonio) who each had three shots. Santamaria had two shots on goal and Muro had one.
Alex Gonzalez (RS-Fr., McAllen, Texas) and
Fernando Arias-Williamson (Jr., Houston) each recorded a pair of shots each.
With the win, keeper
Patrick Kasperitis (RS-Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) recorded his second shutout on the season. Kasperitis had five saves against the Falcons to improve to 2-8 on the season.
The Rattlers now sit with a .500 Heartland Conference record at 2-2 with a 2-8 overall record.
St. Mary's will take its third stop on its four-game road trip at 5 p.m. Saturday against Dallas Baptist in Dallas.
