Cook and Mendoza Named NCBWA All-Region

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Gabe Cook and Edward Mendoza, pitchers for the St. Mary's University Baseball team, were both named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) South Central All-Region Second Team.
 
Cook, a junior left-handed pitcher from San Antonio, is 7-1 in 2026 with a 3.86 ERA and three saves. He has one complete game in 16 appearances, and the opposition is hitting only .214 off him this season. Cook leads the Lone Star Conference and ranks 18th in the nation in WHIP at 1.08, has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.76 and ranks 34th nationally with only 7.10 hits allowed per nine innings.
 
Mendoza, a right-hander from Eagle Pass, Texas, was slighted on the LSC All-Conference teams, but earns All-Region honors after leading the Lone Star and ranking ninth nationally with eight saves. He also has three victories and sports a 3.34 ERA. In 22 appearances (32.1 innings), Mendoza has walked only seven batters with 32 strikeouts, helping the Rattlers rank 22nd nationally with a 2.12 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
 
The Rattlers are currently competing in the NCAA South Central Regional, advancing to NCAA play for the eighth time in school history.
