This Week In Rattlers Golf
NCAA Championship • May 12-14 (Stroke Play) • May 15-16 (Medal Match Play)

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. (PGA National)

•    The St. Mary's Women's Golf returns to the NCAA Championship for the second time in three years and the fifth time in school history after finishing fourth at the NCAA West Regional in Pueblo. The NCAA Championship will consist of 54 holes over three days at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The top eight teams will continue on to Medal Match Play on May 15-16.

•    In 2024, the Rattlers were the national runner-up, falling in an extra hole playoff after tying eventual champion, UIndy, 2-2-1. Surprisingly, there is not a single member of that team on this year's squad.

•    St. Mary's finished fourth at the weather compressed NCAA West Regional, where the teams golfed 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in cold temperatures, beating the snow by a few hours.

•    The Rattlers were seeded fourth for the Lone Star Conference Medal Match play after placing fourth of 13 teams in stroke play. St. Mary's upset top-seeded DBU in the semifinals, 4-1, and then beat West Texas A&M, 3-2, in the finals. It is the first league championship for the Rattlers as members of the Lone Star.

•    Junior Taylor Wilczek shot a school record 64 in the semifinals of the Lone Star Championship, breaking the previous record of 65 by both Maria Regina Gonzalez (2018) and Savannah Dupre (2024). Wilczek had 10 birdies and an eagle over the 18 holes.

•    Both sophomore Brielle Burns and freshman Manon Verret recorded career-low rounds during medal match play, carding identical rounds of 68. Burns turned in her 68 in the semifinals against DBU, while Verret  posted hers in the final against WT.

•    The Rattlers have finished in the top five in each of the seven tournaments of the spring, and in the top eight in all 11 tournaments.

•    The Rattlers lineup is 1) Taylor Wilczek, 2) Brielle Burns, 3) Sabree Lefebvre, 4) Sophia Perkins and 5) Manon Verret.

•    The teams represented in the NCAA West Regional are #4 Anderson (SC), Arkansas Tech, #7 Barry, #11 Cal State San Marcos, Colorado State-Pueblo, #2 DBU, #RV Ferris State, #3 Findlay, #12 Grand Valley State, Minnesota State-Mankato, #RV Missouri-St. Louis, #RV Nebraska-Kearney, #RV Rogers State, Southwestern Oklahoma State, #17 St. Mary's, #16 Tampa, #5 UT Tyler, and #1 Wingate.

•    The weather for this year's championship calls for isolated thunderstorms during stroke play and mostly sunny skies during medal match action. Temperatures will hover in the mid-80s with wins 10-13 mph.

•    Sophomore Brielle Burns was named the Lone Star Newcomer of the Year and to the All-Conference Second Team, while Taylor Wilczek was honored on the First Team, and both were voted to the five-member All-Academic team. Burns became the first golfer to win an individual honor since the team joined the Lone Star.

•    The Rattlers are ranked No. 17 in the final WGCA Poll that was released on May 1. This is the 20th consecutive poll the Rattlers have been ranked.

•    If the season were to end today, junior Taylor Wilczek would finish third in school history with her 73.64 per round scoring average. The school record if 73.03 per round by Savannah Dupre from last season.
