St. Mary's has won 29 consecutive games against UT Permian Basin, dating back to 2012. It is the longest active winning streak against any opponent. The Rattlers have also won the last seven games in the series by run rule.

Senior Abigail Dela Rosa and sophomore Miah Corona combined for 16 hits in the four games last week, collecting eight each. The duo hit .640, scored nine of the team's 33 runs, and added five walks. Fifteen of the 16 hits were singles in helping the team hit .407 on the road and post a 3-1 record.
Final Homestand: The St. Mary's Softball team hosts No. 13 Angelo State and UT Permian Basin after the conclusion of Oyster Bake, playing at home for the final time in 2026. The Rattlers will honor the seniors on the roster after the second game on Sunday against Angelo State. StMU finishes the regular season with six-straight road games.
First Pitch: On Sunday against Angelo State, Judge Nelson W. Wolff will throw out the first pitch of game one. Wolff, a St. Mary's alumnus, served as Bexar County Judge from 2001 to 2022, and served as Mayor of San Antonio, member of San Antonio's City Council, the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate. He recently released a book "The Elysian Fields of Baseball: The Spiritual Evolution of America's Game" and will be signing copies for the team prior to the game. The book is available for purchase on Amazon, along with his eight other published works.
Last Time Out: St. Mary's went 3-1 on the road last week, sweeping Texas A&M International on Saturday before splitting two long, offense-filled games at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday, snapping the Javelinas winning streak at 14 with the 12-9 game two victory. Eight different Rattlers recorded at least one RBI in the two games with the Javelinas and nine batters collected two or more hits.
Few and Far Between: Senior Raegan Tennill struck out for the first time in the month of April in game one at Texas A&M-Kingsville and it is the only time in her last 30 plate appearances that she's been fanned. Tennill only had five K's in the month of March, and hasn't had multiple strikeouts in a doubleheader in the last 11 series.
In the Standings: St. Mary's is currently tied for sixth place in the Lone Star Conference standings with Texas Woman's and three weeks left in the regular season. The conference tournament takes the top nine teams, and will be at the site of the regular season champion.
Shutout Times Three: Senior Ariella Saenz threw her third complete-game shutout in the 8-0 game one win at Texas A&M International on Saturday. She ranks second in the Lone Star Conference and 59th nationally with her three shutouts, and she is one of four Rattlers to throw one this season, as Emery Aguilar, Emily Ayala and Breanna Ford each have one. It is the first time in St. Mary's DII history that four different pitchers have thrown a complete game shutout.
Taking One for the Team: Junior Iliana Melendez took over the conference lead in sacrifice bunts per game this week. Melendez averages 0.23 sacrifices per game, which ranks 47th in Division II, and her 10 are twice that of anyone else on the team. Melendez had three on last week's road trip in addition to her seven hits and sacrifice fly.
Double or Nothing: Freshman Emma Wilson got her first career at-bat at Texas A&M International and responded with a double. Wilson has played in 18 games this season and had been used exclusively as a pinch runner, where she is 4-for-5 in stolen bases and has scored three runs.
Chaos on the Bases: St. Mary's has stolen 92 bases in 2026, ranking 33rd nationally with 2.11 stolen bases per game. The 92 swipes already ranks 8th on the St. Mary's single-season list for most steals.
Super Swipers: For only the fourth time in St. Mary's Division II era there are four players with 10 or more stolen bases in a season. Bryley Westfahl has 27 steals, while Abigail Dela Rosa and Raegan Tennill each have 13 and Iliana Melendez has 10. The 2003, 2006 and 2023 teams also had four players with double digit thefts, and Dela Rosa swiped 12 in 2023 in her first season. The 2025 team has stolen 92 bases, while the 1990 team holds the record with 128 and the 2006 team owns the DII era mark with 120 swipes.
It's an Honor: For her efforts in the circle at OC and Cameron, senior pitcher Ariella Saenz was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week. Saenz started three of the four games in the circle for the Rattlers, going 2-0 with a pair of complete-game victories. Saenz held then-No. 12 Oklahoma Christian to four hits in a 2-1 win and came back the next day to shut out Cameron. In her three appearances, which spanned 16 1/3 innings, Saenz went 2-0 with an 0.86 ERA, and opponents hit just .167 off her.
Helping Hand: Senior Raegan Tennill ranks 10th in the nation in assists and second in the Lone Star Conference with 108. Tennill now ranks ninth in St. Mary's history with 347 career assists, needing 13 more to tie Tiffany Licon (2019-2022) for eighth with 360.
You're Out!: Sophomore first baseman Miah Corona collected 18 putouts in the Rattlers' 3-0 shutout win at Cameron on March 29. It ties for the third-most in a single game in St. Mary's history, and is the most since Destiny Salinas had 20 on March 2, 2024. The 18 chances also tie for the fifth-most in Rattlers history.
Taking the Extra Base: Bryley Westfahl leads the team with 27 steals which ranks 28th in the nation and leads the LSC. There are eight players on the team besides Westfahl who have successfully stolen three or more bases in Raegan Tennill (13-13), Abigail Dela Rosa (13-15), Iliana Melendez (10-11), Gabriela Banda (5-5), Peyton Miers (5-5), Miah Corona (3-4), Emma Wilson (4-5) and Milliana Torrez (3-3).
Making Milestones: Junior Gabriela Banda is one RBI shy of 100 for her career. Sophomore Miah Corona needs 10 hits for 100 in her career. Senior Abigail Dela Rosa is eight runs shy of scoring 100 the next hit for sophomore Izabella Valdez will be her 50th.
On the Fly: St. Mary's is second the Lone Star and ranks 12th in all of Division II in sacrifice flies, hitting 19 this season. Gabriela Banda, Miah Corona and Izabella Valdez are 87th nationally with three each.
Double Trouble: Head Coach Taylor Lira wants the tradition of St. Mary's ranking among the best in the nation in double plays to continue. In five of the last six seasons the Rattlers have ranked in the top 40 in Division II in double plays, including ranking third in 2021. This year's team has already turned 19, ranking 11th out of 265 teams.
Made to be Broken: Senior Raegan Tennill entered her final season with 11 sacrifice flies in her career, needing two more to break the record, and did it in the first week. Tennill breaks the school record of 12 held by Vianna Gutierrez-Touchtone (2012-15).
