SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Fortnite and Call of Duty teams have secured spots in the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason.
Fortnite
The Fortnite team finished their seven-week regular season with an overall ranking of 54 out of 101 teams, sending them to the March 26 post-season qualifier, where they placed 14th out of 50 teams and secured their spot in the finals. During the regular season, the team competed in a three-match series for leaderboard points based on their in-game eliminations and placement.
"We're all excited, and I'm very proud," said Fortnite team captain Maraina Perez Romero, "our hard work and dedication are finally paying off."
The ECAC Fortnite postseason starts on April 2, with 50 schools competing in a four-match series, and concludes on April 9 with a final four-match series. The top three schools on the leaderboard will be crowned ECAC champions.
Call of Duty
The Call of Duty team is headed to the ECAC postseason after finishing their regular season with a 6-1 overall record, dropping one series to Keiser University (Lakeland) in week 5.
"We feel very confident and optimistic about the season," said team manager
Victor Yacaman. "We have been working hard to get here, and we are ready for the playoffs."
Call of Duty faces the Ball State Cardinals on April 3 for ECAC quarterfinals in a best-of-five map series. The Rattlers' history against the Cardinals includes a 3-1 defeat during the fall season.
"I'm really excited to see the team here," said team captain
