DESTIN, Fla. — A fantastic day of golf saw the No. 18 St. Mary's University Women's Golf team leap nine spots on the team leaderboard into a tie for second place at the Emerald Coast Collegiate on Tuesday.
The Rattlers led the 17-team field with a four-under-par round of 280 on day two of the three-day tournament. It is the third-lowest round in school history, trailing only the 276 from the 2022 Lone Star Championship first round and the 278 shot by the 2024 team in the third round of the Ladies National Preview.
All five golfers climbed at least a dozen spots on the individual leaderboard and are ranked between 10th and 35th in the 93-player field. Lone Star Conference foe UT Tyler retains the overall lead and is even par through two rounds, while the Rattlers are 17 strokes back, along with Mississippi College and Flagler. Sydney Moss from MC took over the individual lead, climbing three spots with back-to-back rounds of 70 on the par-71 course.
Sophomore
Brielle Burns (Houston) and junior
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) both carded rounds of 69 on Monday. It is the lowest round of Burns' career, and the third time this year Wilczek has recorded a round in the 60s. Burns is tied for 10th with a two-round total of 144 (75-69/+2), while Wilczek is tied for 21st at 147 strokes (78-69/+5) after not having a single bogey or higher on the day. She hit two birdies and 16 pars in vaulting 27 spots on the leaderboard.
Sandwiched between them on the leaderboard is freshman
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) in a tie for 15th with a 36-hole total of 145 (75-70/+3). Her Monday round of 70 ties her collegiate low from the second round of the Rattler Invitational.
Sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) jumped up 12 places into a tie for 29th, shaving five strokes off her first round to sit at 149 strokes (77-72/+7), while sophomore
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.), who is golfing a little more than six hours from home, leaped 13 spots into a tie for 35th after she also bettered her first round by five strokes (78-73=150/+8).
The final day on Tuesday is slated for a shotgun start in foursomes. The Rattlers will golf with UT Tyler, Mississippi College and Flagler, and will begin on holes 1-4 beginning at 9 a.m.
