DESTIN, Fla. — The St. Mary's University Women's Golf team is tied for 11th after the first round of the Emerald Coast Collegiate at the Sandestin Resort & Club. The tournament's start was delayed by rain, forcing an 11:15 a.m. shotgun start.
The Rattlers posted an opening round score of 305 and are tied with Central Oklahoma. UT Tyler leads the field after shooting a 287, while a trio of golfers is tied for the individual lead at -2 in Millie Thompson from West Florida, Henriette Stranda from Flagler and Raegan Petersen from Washburn.
Sophomore
Brielle Burns (Houston) and freshman
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) are tied for 32nd after shooting a 76 on the opening day. Burns finished the round strong, collecting a pair of birdies on her final five holes with three pars, while Verret started hot, birdieing her first hole and following it up with four pars before heading to the back nine.
Sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) is two strokes behind the pair after tallying 78 strokes on Sunday.
The duo of junior
Taylor Wilczek (Surprise, Ariz.) and
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) is tied for 48th place with identical rounds of 79.
For the second round on Monday, the Rattlers will be teamed with golfers from tournament hosts, Missouri-St. Louis and Central Oklahoma. The field will use a double tee start, with half the field beginning on hole 1 and the other half on hole 10. The groups with StMU will start on hole 10 between 9 and 9:36 a.m., every nine minutes.
