STUNT Splits First Day of St. Edward's Tournament

AUSTIN, Texas — On the first day of the St. Edward's Tournament, the No. 12 St. Mary's University STUNT team split a pair of Lone Star Conference games, falling to No. 3 DBU 28-14 before rebounding to defeat No. 21 St. Edward's 24-3.
 
The split gives the Patriots (10-3, 7-0) a one-and-a-half-game lead on the Rattlers (7-7, 5-1), making the game on Saturday between the two clubs extremely important in the seeding for the upcoming Lone Star Conference tournament.
 
St. Mary's takes on DBU at 1 p.m. and has a non-conference tilt with No. 8 Ashland scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
Game One (DBU 28, St. Mary's 14)
The Patriots outscored the Rattlers 5-1 in the first quarter, earning one point outright for routines 7, 4 and 3, and starting the scoring with a two-point, minor deductions win in the first round of routine 2.
 
The Rattlers scored at least one point in all four rounds of pyramids & tosses, winning routines 2 and 4 by minor deductions, and losing routines 1 and 7 the same way for the 11-7 halftime score.
 
The third quarter started with a two-point minor win for DBU on routine 2, and they won the final three points, making the scoreboard read 16-8 heading into the team routines. 
 
The Rattlers hit the jumps & tumbling portion of routine 7 for the second time in two weeks, but the Patriots outpaced the Gold and Blue 12-6 in the final stanza for the 28-14 final. Three of the six points came in routine 2 in the second round.
 
Game Two (St. Mary's 23, St. Edward's 4)
The Rattlers completed the season sweep in the Battle of the Saints, earning one point for the school in the annual competition between the two schools with a 23-4 victory.
 
StMU outscored the Hilltoppers 5-1 in the first quarter, 4-1 in the second period, 4-0 in the third quarter and 10-2 in the team routines. All of the rounds were in routines 1-through-4, as both teams forfeited routine 8 in the second and fourth quarters.
