DALLAS — In order to win the 2026 Lone Star Conference Championship, the St. Mary's University STUNT team will have to fight through the back bracket after splitting day one at the Burg Center.
The Rattlers (9-10) defeated Texas Woman's 28-22 in the opening round before falling 31-14 to top-seeded DBU in the second round.
St. Mary's will take on the winner of Texas Woman's vs Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Semifinals. The Pioneers and Javelinas will face off at 11 a.m.
First Round (St. Mary's 28, Texas Woman's 22)
The Rattlers got off to a strong start in the first quarter, partner stunts, scoring in every routine for a 5-3 lead.
In quarter two, pyramids & tosses, the Rattlers scored its first point of the season, and only the second point in school history on routine seven during round two, before winning routine six and winning by minors in routine four for the 9-5 lead at halftime.
The Pioneers edged the Rattlers 6-5 during jumps & tumbling, though each team scored on all four routines, with TWU winning three of four by minor deductions, and StMU winning the final round, routine six, via minors, giving StMU the 14-11 advantage.
The Rattlers saw another first in program history during the fourth quarter, as in round three, the team scored on all three sections of routine seven. St. Mary's won the first point via minor deductions and then won the second and third parts outright.
Second Round (DBU 31, St. Mary's 14)
StMU once again made an early statement, scoring the first point against top-seeded DBU, winning routine three in the first round, and the Patriots immediately called a timeout. They responded by winning the final three points of the quarter.
During pyramids & tosses, the Rattlers scored three points, two by minor deductions, and they tied on routine two for the 9-4 score at halftime.
The Patriots extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring StMU 6-2 in jumps & tumbling for a 15-6 tally, and DBU doubled up StMU in the fourth quarter, 16-8 for the 31-14 final.
