KINGSVILLE, Texas — In the final regular season game of the season, the St. Mary's University STUNT team defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 30-7 on Friday afternoon.
The Rattlers improve to 8-9 on the year and finish Lone Star Conference play with a 6-2 record, earning the second seed at the upcoming championship in Dallas on March 27-28.
The 30 points are the most scored by StMU this season, breaking the school record for points in a game. The previous high was 27 scored against both the Javelinas (6-14, 2-6) and Texas Woman's on March 1 at the Rattler Invitational.
The Rattlers won all four rounds in the first quarter, three of them outright, to jump out to a 5-1 lead after partner stunts.
StMU won each of the four rounds in the second quarter as well, taking the first two rounds of pyramids & tosses by minor deductions for a 2-1 score, while winning the final two rounds outright to stretch the advantage to 11-3 at halftime.
The Rattlers posted wins in the first and fourth rounds, won by minors in the second round and tied the Javelinas in the third quarter for the 16-5 score.
St. Mary's allowed only two points in the fourth quarter, putting together a solid four rounds in the team routines to push the final score to 30-7.
The Rattlers will take on third-seeded Texas Woman's in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament at 12:30 p.m., and depending on the outcome of that game, will play either at 3:30 or 5 p.m. later that evening.
