Men's Tennis Hosts Cameron to Begin LSC Play

March 15 • Cameron • 2 p.m.

 

•    The St. Mary's Men's Tennis team begins Lone Star Conference play, hosting Cameron on Sunday at 2 p.m. before embarking on a five-game road trip.

•    Cameron holds a commanding 22-3 lead in the all-time series, and has won the last six meetings between the two teams. Both the Aggies and the Rattlers have faced Colorado Mesa this season, and won by identical 5-2 scores in Lubbock last week.

•    The weather for San Antonio on Sunday will be warm and mostly cloudy, with highs reaching approximately 92 degrees. There is a 10% chance of rain, with wind speeds from the southwest at 11 mph and a high UV index of 7.

•    Sophomore Lucas Castillo Sanchez has been named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week each of the last two weeks, in addition to celebrating a birthday last week. Castillo Sanchez is 17-4 overall and 9-1 in duals this spring. He has a perfect 6-0 record at number two singles and is 3-1 at number one.

•    The 9-1 start to the season for the Rattlers tied the best 10-game start in school history, matching the start of the 2021-22 team that began 11-1 and finished 17-7 with an appearance in the NCAA South Central Regional.

•    The freshmen Diego Alvarez and Nikita Gavrilonoks lead with two team victory clinching wins this season. Five others have clinched the team win once.

•    Freshman Nikita Gavrilonoks is 8-1 in doubles matches this spring, leading the team in doubles. He has been paired with Lincoln Baldonado (3-0), Ollie Eriksson (2-0), and Florian Smalto (3-1).

•    At the conclusion of the first semester, St. Mary's had nine student-athletes named to the Lone Star Commissioner's Honor Roll, with Lincoln Baldonado, Bernhard Hauer, and Louis Hein all earning a perfect 4.00 GPA. Diego Alvarez, Aaron Ben Anton, Lucas Castillo Sanchez, Leonardo Fabbri, Nikita Gavrilonoks, and Evin Walsh all sported at least a 3.30 GPA for the fall semester.
