RICHARDSON, Texas — For the second-straight week, St. Mary's University Men's Tennis player
Lucas Castillo Sanchez has been named the Men's Singles Player of the Week in the Lone Star Conference.
Castillo Sanchez, a sophomore from Wesley Chapel, Fla., is 9-1 in singles this season and went 2-1 last week en route to winning the award for the second time. He did not drop a single game to #40 Diogo Manzano from Colorado Mesa at number two singles, prompting Coach
Bill Macom to move him to number one singles, where he won 7-5, 6-4 over Washington (Mo.) late on Monday night before dropping a hard-fought three-set battle to #3 Case Western Reserve on Tuesday morning, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 4-6, getting broken only once in the third set.
Castillo Sanchez is 6-0 at number two singles and 3-1 at number one this spring and sports a 6-2 mark in doubles.
The Rattlers begin Lone Star Conference play on Sunday against Cameron at 2 p.m.
