SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team hosted another successful tournament to open the 2025-26 campaign, winning a pair of singles flights and three doubles flights at the Lilly Kimbell Memorial Tournament over the weekend.
"For the second weekend in a row, we did a pretty good job dealing with the heat and some rain interruptions to come out with good records in each flight," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "I am looking forward to the next few weeks of practice before the ITA's."
Junior
Leonardo Fabbri (Faenza, Italy) won flight four in singles, winning both his first and third rounds in straight sets, and his second was a walkover due to injury, unfortunately. Fabbri is now 5-1 on the fall campaign after going 2-1 at the Brother Al Tournament last week.
Junior
Louis Hein (Hamburg, Germany) was also undefeated in singles, posting a 2-0 record in flight seven.
Sophomore
Lucas Castillo Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), freshman Nikita Gavrilonovoks (Riga, Latvia), and senior transfer
Fabian Rosales (Hollywood, Fla.) all posted records of 2-1 in singles, while redshirt freshman
Evin Walsh (El Paso, Texas) was 1-1 in flight nine.
Gavrilonovoks paired with
Diego Alvarez (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and Castillo Sanchez teamed with fellow sophomore
Lincoln Baldonado (Glendale, Ariz.) to both go 3-0 in Flights 1 and 2, respectively. The tandem of Baldonado and Castillo Sanchez dropped only five games total over the three sets en route to the title.
Fabbri and newcomer
Evan Walther (Eagle, Idaho), playing together for the first time, swept through Flight 3, losing only one game in each of their first two rounds.
The Rattlers will remain in San Antonio, but will head across town for the Trinity Invitational on Sept. 19-20.
