RICHARDSON, Texas — After winning the regular season and advancing to the finals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament in 2024, the voters have predicted St. Mary's University Men's Soccer will finish second in the 2025 campaign, the league announced Tuesday.
Midwestern State, the four-time defending tournament champions, is the top point-getter in the 11-team poll with 16 of the 33 first-place votes and 338 points. The Rattlers garnered 13 first-place nods and 331 points. St. Edward's collected three first-place votes and 297 points. DBU (241) and West Texas A&M (239) round out the top five.
St. Mary's seniors
Luke Mulkey (Parker, Texas) and
Johnny Thurbin (Lingfield, Surrey, England) were both named the LSC Preseason Defender and Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively. The pair earned the same awards at the conclusion of last season and are looking to repeat in their final year on the pitch.
Mulkey, Thurbin and the Rattlers were 12-4-4 a season ago, with an 8-1-1 mark in LSC play. In six years in the LSC, the team has won three regular-season titles (2019, 2022, 2024). Junior
Gael Gallegos (Laredo, Texas) joined the two seniors on the Players to Watch list.
StMU kicks off the 2025 season at No. 3 Colorado State-Pueblo on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. (MT). The Rattlers face six-straight nationally-ranked opponents to start the year.
