Important Series: Only one game separates St. Mary's and Eastern New Mexico in the Lone Star Conference standings as the two teams begin a four-game series on Friday at 6 p.m. The Greyhounds are tied with LCU for fifth-place at 20-12, while the Rattlers are currently seventh at 19-13.

Beverages at the Ballpark: On Saturday, purchase an exclusive $25 VIP ticket to gain access to Rattler Ridge behind the third-base dugout and enjoy pizza and adult beverages with a valid 21+ ID.

Leaving the Yard: Both Jaxon Daigre and Trey Guajardo hit their first home runs of the season at West Texas A&M last week as part of a nine-home run weekend for the Rattlers.  Thirteen different Rattlers have combined to hit 37 long balls in 2025. The 13 homers is one more than last season's team (36) and two shy of the 2023 team that hit 39 for the most in the Lone Star Conference era of StMU baseball.

Regionally Ranked: The Rattlers held steady in the NCBWA South Central Regional rankings, coming in at 9th for the second straight week, earning 19 points. Angelo State retook the top spot, knocking UT Tyler out after three straight weeks. The Rams got five of the eight first-place votes and 76 points.

Taking the Extra Base: Senior Easton Parrish is the only player on the team who has more (min. 50 AB) extra base hits than singles. Parrish has 15 extra base hits (six doubles, one triple, eight home runs) and 12 singles in his 27 hits in 2025. He is one of six players in the Lone Star Conference to have more than 50% of his hits be longer than singles, joining Brevin McCool, LCU (36/58), Kyle Micklus, WT (19/35), Zane Roos, CU (17/33), Justin Harris, ASU (19/33), and Daniel Pruitt, ENMU (15/25).

Getting On Base: Senior Trey Guajardo has reached base safely in his last 12 games, the longest streak on the team this season, and the longest of his career. He has hits in 11 of the 12 games, raising his batting average 70 points during the stretch to .394. Both Brendan Concannon and Easton Parrish are second on the team, reaching base safely in nine straight.

A First for Everything: For the first time this season, the Rattlers dropped a game when scoring double figure runs, losing the series opener to #25 West Texas A&M 18-13. StMU bounced back to win the next three games, and scored over 10 in both games of the doubleheader on Saturday to improve to 10-1 on the year when plating 10 or more runs.

It's An Honor: Junior pitcher Kaleb Gauna was named both the Lone Star Conference and NCBWA South Central Region Pitcher of the Week last week. Gauna pitched a two-hit shutout against then-#15 St. Edward's, and had a no hitter through 6 1/3 innings. He needed only 90 pitches for the complete game, and is the first since 2022 to throw a complete game shutout for the Rattlers (Steven Medrano at ENMU).

Split or Better: St. Mary's has either split or won seven of the eight Lone Star series this season, dropping only three of four to then-#2 Angelo State. That betters last season's total of six series with four remaining on the 2025 slate.

In a Pinch: The Rattlers have had six different hitters deliver at the plate when entered as a pinch hitter this season. Matt Gauna (4-for-9) leads the team with four hits, while Brandon Ermis (3-for-5), and Christian Keller (3-for-5) each have three hits. Jaxon Daigre (1-for-4), Trey Guajardo (1-for-4) and Rob Gonzalez (1-for-2) all each have one. Rattler pinch hitters are 13-for-40 (.325) this season, while opponents are only 4-for-17 (.235).

Moving Past It: The Rattlers are have already surpassed the win total from 2024, with at least 12 games remaining on the docket.  StMU is 21-13 in 2025, while the team was 20-30 in 2024.

Quite the Career: Senior Jake Elizondo currently ranks among the Division II active career leaders in four categories, ranking 17th in at bats (669), 20th in games played (181), 36th in hits (192), and 45th in runs scored (138). Easton Parrish climbed 11 spots in the career hits list into 239th with 136.

Getting the Early Jump: St. Mary's is 12-2 this season when scoring in the first inning and 16-6 when scoring first in the game. On the flip side, the Rattlers are 5-7 when the opposition scores the first run of the game.

Swiper, No Swiping: Junior Tristan Moreno tied the school record stealing three bases in the first game on Saturday at Oklahoma Christian. Moreno becomes the ninth different Rattler to swipe three bags in a single game, and the first since Clay Bradford stole three against UT Tyler on April 23, 2022.

Picked Ninth: St. Mary's was picked to finish ninth in the Lone Star preseason poll. The Rattlers received 205 points. Angelo State, which played for the national championship a season ago, was predicted to win the league in 2025, garnering 29 of the 39 first-place votes and 483 points. Defending LSC Champions, Lubbock Christian, was picked second with five first-place votes and 457 points. West Texas A&M, UT Tyler and St. Edward's round out the top five.
