SAN ANTONIO —
Kaleb Gauna, a junior pitcher for St. Mary's University Baseball, has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association South Central Region Pitcher of the Week, the association announced Wednesday.
Gauna, a right-hander from Hondo, Texas, earned the honor after pitching a complete-game shutout against then-#15 St. Edward's on Saturday. He was also the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week, striking out seven and pitching 6 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball before giving up two singles in the final inning for the 3-0 win. He needed only 90 pitches to get through the seven innings, allowing the Hilltoppers to hit only .083 against him.
Gauna and Lubbock Christian's Brendan McCool, who was named the South Central hitter of the week, will be forwarded to the national ballot.
