SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Basketball dynamic duo of senior
Lachlan Bofinger and junior
Damani Claxton were Friday named to the D2CCA South Central All-Region Second Team.
The pair have led the Rattlers (19-9) back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years and combine to average 30.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game and were both honored on the Lone Star All-Conference First Team.
They are the first basketball players at St. Mary's to earn All-Region honors since Marvin Binney was an NABC Second-Team honoree in 2014-15, and it is the first time in the school's NCAA history two players have earned honors in the same season.
Bofinger, a senior forward from Sydney, Australia, has recorded 12 double-doubles this season, which ranks 17th in the nation. He was the only player in the Lone Star Conference this season to average a double-double, and he currently ranks 20th in the nation with 9.7 boards a night. He also ranks in the top 10 in the Lone Star statistics in nine categories.
Claxton, a junior from the Bronx, N.Y., ranks third in the conference with 17.4 points per game, seventh in free throw percentage at 80.3 percent and ninth with 1.62 steals per game. He has scored in double figures in 27 of the team's 29 points and has 10 games of 20-plus points. He is only the second player in StMU Division II history to score more than 500 points in a season, joining Hall of Famer Kevin Kotzur, who accomplished the feat twice.
Lone Star Champion DBU leads the South Central Region with three selections on the two teams.
Bofinger, Claxton and the rest of the Rattlers will face Lubbock Christian in the NCAA Regionals on Saturday at Noon.
