SAN ANTONIO — After combining to score 23 of the St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team's 34 goals on the season, both
Elena Kossler and
Shelby Paniagua were named to the D2CCA South Central All-Region First Team on Tuesday.
It is the third-straight season that Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas) has earned First-Team honors from the association, while this is the first award for Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria).
Paniagua is one of four three- or four-time selections on the First Team, joining South Central Region Player of the Year Bella Campos from Colorado School of Mines and Parker Coe and Kenzi Tufts from DBU. Paniagua finished second on the team with 24 points (10 goals, four assists) and was a First-Team Lone Star All-Conference selection and CSC Academic All-District pick. She concluded her career tied for second with 24 assists, fifth with 29 goals and 82 points, and the school record holder in shots taken with 218.
Kossler was named both the Newcomer and the Forward of the Year in the Lone Star Conference, joining Paniagua on the All-Conference First Team. She was also tabbed to the Lone Star All-Academic and CSC Academic All-District teams. She tied the school single-season record with five game-winning goals, and finished fourth with 13 goals and 32 points. She led the Lone Star in game-winning goals (5), goals per game (0.72), points per game (1.78), shots per game (4.50) and shots on goal per game (2.28).
It is the first time in school history the Rattlers have had two First-Team selections on the All-Region squad. In 2023, the team had three total selections, with Paniagua on the First Team, and both
Sydney Varela and Jackie Miller earned Second Team honors. That season, Paniagua became the first D2CCA All-American at St. Mary's, getting voted to the Second Team.
