PORTALES, N.M. – The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team posted its second-straight clean sheet, winning 1-0 at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.
The Rattlers' (7-7-3, 5-6-2) defense limited the Greyhounds (2-12-2, 1-10-1) to five shots in the game, and only one shot on goal that freshman
Callie Gilliam (Lake Jackson, Texas) saved.
Fellow freshman
Helen Lazaro (Garland, Texas) scored the lone goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the eighth minute to score her 13th goal of the season. Her 13 goals are tied for the fourth most in a single season in St. Mary's history, knotting her with teammate
Elena Kossler (Otztal-Bahnhof, Austria). It was also Lazaro's fourth game-winning goal of the season, tying her for fourth on that list as well.
The school record for goals in a season is 20 by Kristen Ferguson from 1997, while the team's NCAA Division II record of 15 by Kyle Hyslop in 2004. The record for game-winning goals is held by three players (Hyslop 2005, Megan Copeland 2022 and Kossler 2025).
The back line for the Rattlers, Gilliam, junior
Lauren Mueller (San Antonio) and junior
Alyssa Alba (El Paso, Texas) all played 90 minutes on the turf.
The Rattlers will close out the regular season on Tuesday for Senior Night against Lubbock Christian at 6 p.m. The game has major playoff implications as with a win, StMU could qualify for the LSC Tournament. A draw or a Lubbock Christian win would knock the Rattlers out of contention.
