RICHARDSON, Texas — After not winning a player of the week in the first 10 weeks of the season, the St. Mary's University Volleyball team earned its second-straight Defensive Player of the Week award from the Lone Star Conference on Tuesday, as libero
Alyssa Koehl grabbed the final one of the season.
Koehl, a senior libero from New Braunfels, Texas, averaged 7.29 digs per set over the final two matches of the regular season to help the Rattlers secure the No. 4 seed for the LSC tournament. Koehl also became just the second player in StMU history to record 2,000 digs in a career. Koehl added seven assists and four service aces. In a four-set win over Western New Mexico, she had a match-high 29 digs. It was the 15th time she eclipsed 20 kills this season. Her play has helped the Rattlers win eight of their last nine matches.
The Rattlers will face UT Tyler in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament on Thursday at 4 p.m. It is the first award of the season for Koehl and the third of her career - as she won one each in 2023 and 2024. Fellow senior
Dallasstar Johnson (San Antonio) won the same award a week ago.
