ORLANDO, Fla. — Elena Kossler, a junior forward from St. Mary's University (Lone Star Conference), has been named the D2CIDA Women's Soccer National Player of the Week for her exceptional performance during the week of October 20–26.
Kossler scored five goals and added one assist over two matches to lead the Rattlers to an unbeaten week. Against Eastern New Mexico, the Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria native assisted on the opening goal before scoring the next four, including the game-winner, in a 5–1 victory. Her nine-point outing was the highest single-match total in the Lone Star Conference this season and tied the St. Mary's program record for goals in a match. Earlier in the week, she also scored the Rattlers' lone goal in a 1–1 draw at UT Tyler.
With her dominant offensive showing, Kossler has now recorded 12 goals on the year, tying for fourth on St. Mary's single-season list. She currently leads the LSC in goals per match (.857) and is tied for the conference lead in game-winning goals (4) and total goals, helping StMU to just one loss in its last eight contests.
Kossler becomes the first player in St. Mary's history to win a National Player of the Week award by any governing body.
National Players of the Week are selected by a volunteer committee of Division II Conference Information Directors (D2CIDA) from nominations submitted by conference offices.
