Women's Golf Posts Tremendous Second Round to Move up to 2nd at MSU Invite

10/20/2025 8:00:00 PM

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — The St. Mary's University Women's Golf team came out on fire for the second round of the MSU Fall Invitational on Monday, shooting a tournament-low 282 to tie for the fifth-lowest round in school history, and move into second place on the leaderboard.

A big reason for the Rattlers' success was junior Taylor Wilczek (Surprise, Ariz.), who tied the lowest round of her career with a 66, including four birdies and an eagle on the back nine. Wilczek is tied for the individual lead at -6 (72, 66) with Ella Cheek from No. 1 DBU, who shot identical rounds of 69 on the day. It is the third time Wilczek has carded a 66 in her career, tying for the third-lowest round in school history, and one off the StMU record of 65.

Wilczek has had fantastic success thus far on par-4 scoring, where she is -6, three strokes better than anyone else in the field. Through 36 holes, she has 10 birdies and her eagle on 18, leading the 94 student-athletes in birdies.

The Rattlers are five shots back from the Patriots, who fired a 287 in the first round to take a 10-shot lead at the turn.

Sophomore Brielle Burns (Houston) took seven strokes off her morning round and climbed 18 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 12th at 149 (78-71/+5), while freshman Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) is one stroke behind Burns after posting a 150 (76-74/+6) to tie for 17th.

Sophomore Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) bettered her first round by one stroke in the afternoon and is tied for 32nd place with her total of 153 (77-76/+9).

Sophomore Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) did a tremendous job of refocusing after a rough morning to come out swinging in the second round with a one-under, 71, after battling to an 84. She leapfrogged 29 others to move into a tie for 40th on the day's end leaderboard with 155 strokes (+11).

Freshman Abbey Anderson (Austin, Texas) posted the first eagle of her career, getting up and down in three strokes on the par-5 sixth hole in the afternoon. She ended the day tied for 55th place with her total of 159 (78-81/+15).

This is the seventh time the Rattlers have competed at the MSU Invitational at the Wichita Falls Country Club. In 2011, 2013 and 2014, StMU competed in the Invite, but it was hosted at The Champions Course in Wichita Falls. The team finished second in 2017, 2021 and 2024, and won the title in 2023.

The Rattlers will be paired with golfers from DBU, Odessa College, which sits in third place, six strokes back from StMU, and UT Tyler for the final round on Tuesday.
