THIS WEEK IN RATTLERS TENNIS
ITA South Central Regional
Oct. 2-4 • All Day • MSU Tennis Center • Wichita Fallas, Texas
Toughest Test: The St. Mary's Men's Tennis team faces its toughest tournament of the fall, heading to Wichita Falls for the ITA South Central Regional. Diego Alvarez, Aaron Ben Anton, Lincoln Baldonado, Lucas Castillo Sanchez, Leonardo Fabbri, Louis Hein, Fabian Rosales and Evan Walther are all entered in both the singles and doubles draws, though the draws have not yet been announced.
A Look Back: In the final tune-up before the ITA Regionals, St. Mary's had five finish with a 2-1 record in singles, while the duo of Louis Hein and Bernhard Hauer won the third flight of doubles at the Trinity University Invitational. The pair received a bye in the quarterfinals as the top seed and then defeated teams from UIW and Our Lady of the Lake to win the title.
2024 Regional: All six singles entrants in the 2024 regional for the Rattlers won at least one singles match, while Aaron Ben Anton, Lucas Castillo Sanchez and Louis Hein all won two matches. Anton and Hein each reached the consolation quarterfinals before bowing out, while Castillo Sanchez made it to the main draw round of 16.
Winning Ways: Junior Leonardo Fabbri leads the Rattlers with an 8-2 record through the first three tournaments, while sophomore Lucas Castillo Sanchez is right behind him with a mark of 7-2. Fabbri and Evan Walther also have identical 5-2 records in doubles to lead the team.
Welcome: St. Mary's has five newcomers on its 12-man roster in 2025-26, including senior transfer Fabian Rosales from the now defunct DBU team, and Wheaton transfer Evan Walther to go along with a trio of freshmen.
Oh, So Smart: Junior Leonardo Fabbri was named to the CSC Academic All-District team a season ago, while senior Bernhard Hauer was voted to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic team.
What's Next: This will be the final tournament of the fall season, unless someone earns a berth to the ITA Cup on Oct. 15-19 in Rome, Georgia at the USTA National Campus.Â
