Men's Tennis Hosts Two to Kick Off Spring

NET POINTS

•    The St. Mary's Men's Tennis kicks off the spring championship season hosting a pair of matches. The Rattlers host Schreiner at 10 a.m. on Saturday and take on Jacksonville College at 1 p.m. on Monday.

•    The Rattlers canceled their match against McMurry that was originally scheduled for 10 a.m. on Feb. 1 and moved the Schreiner contest into that slot. Schreiner and Lewis & Clark will play after the conclusion of the Rattlers match.

•    Senior Alvaro Soler and freshman Lucas Castillo Sanchez were tabbed as Lone Star Conference Players to Watch. Soler was 7-2 during the fall season, while Castillo Sanchez was 4-5 in his first semester.

•    The Rattlers return six letterwinners off last season's team that was 6-10 overall and 3-5 in Lone Star action.

•    Sophomore Louis Hein led the team in wins during the fall tournament season, posting a record of 8-4, while seniors Daniel Matheu Baldor and Alvaro Soler were 7-2 for the best winning percentage. Matheu Baldor won the green bracket of the UIW Tournament to end the fall on a three-match winning streak. He defeated a pair of Division I players en route to the title.

•    At the UIW Fall Tournament in doubles action, the pairing of junior Bernhard Hauer and sophomore Leonardo Fabbri went undefeated in the red draw, dropping only two games in the final two matches en route to the title.

•    The Rattlers are 12-0 all-time against Schreiner, winning 9-0 in the last meeting in 2022-23. St. Mary's is also 1-0 against Jacksonville, winning 7-0 in 2022-23.
