RICHARDSON, Texas — Two weeks after earning Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors on the offensive side, St. Mary's University's
Lachlan Bofinger has been named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Bofinger, a graduate student from Sydney, Australia, has been a stat-sheet filler all season for the Rattlers. On the most recent trip to Oklahoma, the forward averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocked shots per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field in extending the team's winning streak to nine straight inside conference play and six straight overall.
Â
Bofinger's defensive presence helped hold Cameron and Oklahoma Christian to a combined 39 percent shooting. Of his 19 rebounds in the two games, 15 were on the defensive end of the floor.
Â
He recorded his league-leading eighth double-double of the year, and he now ranks in the top 100 in NCAA Division II stats in assist-to-turnover ratio (71st), double-doubles (11th), field goal percentage (96th), points per game (99th), defensive rebounds per game (23rd), offensive rebounds per game (32nd), and total rebounds per game (18th).
Â
Bofinger is the second player in the Lone Star Conference to win the weekly award on both sides of the ball, joining Maison Adeleye from UT Permian Basin. He is also the first Rattler to win two weekly awards in the same season since the team joined the league in 2019-20.
