TYLER, Texas — For the second-straight season, all six St. Mary's University Men's Tennis players won at least one match at the ITA South Central Regional and four of the six singles athletes won twice.
Both senior
Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain) and Lucas Castillo-Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) reached the round of 16. All three of Soler's matches were decided in the third-set, while Castillo-Sanchez dropped only game in his second round victory.
"Everyone played pretty well this weekend," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "I think all the coaches learned a lot about the team and what we need to do moving forward the remainder of the semester. We're still going to concentrate on conditioning and our weight training program but also get into more individual workouts for the next several weeks."
Junior
Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) lost his opening round match to 16th-seeded Bruno Sanchez of Midwestern State but bounced back to win his next two in straight sets. He lost in the consolation quarterfinals in a tiebreaker set.
Sophomore
Louis Hein (Hamburg, Germany) also reached the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. Both of his losses were to top-five seeds in the tournament, while his wins both came in straight sets, including a thrilling 7-5 win in the tiebreaker of the second set.
The Rattlers wrap up the fall season Oct. 4-6 at the UIW Tournament at the Mabry Tennis Center.
