SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University freshman
Selina Wu was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Region Rookie of the Year on Wednesday.
Â
The Rattlers were also an honorable mention selection on the ITA Community Service award, along with Midwestern State, Texas A&M Kingsville and Lubbock Christian. DBU won the region's award for most community service hours.
Â
Wu, a first-year standout from San Gabriel, Calif., was the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and posted an 11-6 record in singles and a 14-5 record in doubles during the spring season. She won her final four singles matches of the year and, during the fall, advanced to the ITA Cup, where she was the only first-year player in the field.Â
Â
Combined with her fall record, Wu posted a 27-13 record in singles and a 26-7 record in doubles and was ranked among the top 20 in the nation through the majority of the spring. She will become only the fourth Rattler in school history to end the season ranked in the top 20 in singles, joining Mariana Rong (2013), Kaylin Kruseman (2018) and
Ashley Penshorn (2020).
