Men's Tennis Looks to Make Noise at LSC Championship

NET POINTS

•    The St. Mary's Men's Tennis team will be the sixth-seed at the 2024 Lone Star Conference Championship. It is the first time the Rattlers have been seeded sixth as they were third in 2021 (which was canceled), fourth in 2022 and seventh last year.

•    The Rattlers are 1-2 all-time at the Lone Star Championship, going 1-1 in 2022 and 0-1 a year ago. The team is 0-1 against Cameron and Midwestern State and 1-0 against UAFS.

•    St. Mary's is searching for its first win against UT Tyler as they are 0-5 all-time, though the Rattlers gave the Patriots everything they could handle during the regular season, falling 4-3.

•    The all-time record against the rest of the field is:

•    Senior Oskar Irdoja came oh, so close to posting a perfect record in Lone Star Conference play. He was 7-1 against league foes, falling only to UTPB's Takumi Katsuda. He is 11-3 in the spring heading into the championship.

•    The tandem of Nicolas Llosa and Alvaro Soler are ranked 19th in the nation in doubles, while Jake Faryniarz and Ryan Koth are ranked 35th as of the April 17 ITA poll.

•    Several Rattlers are climbing the career doubles duals victories charts in school history. Nicolas Llosa is fifth all-time with 48 wins, passing Bojan Popovic (2016-20) with 47. Jake Faryniarz is now seventh with 44 wins, passing Matt Banner (2012-15) with 42. With one more, Faryniarz will tie Adam Dockery (2014-17) with 45.

•    In singles play, Nicolas Llosa is also tied for fourth on the career singles wins chart with 43, knotting Jose Antelo (2015-19). Oskar Irdoja has jumped all the way into sixth with 37 victories, passing Carlos Olea (2011-14), while Alvaro Soler is tied for ninth with 30 wins. He is tied with Bojan Popovic (2016-20).

•    Seniors Alvaro Soler and Oskar Irdoja were both named Players to Watch by the Lone Star Conference. The pair were both honored on the Lone Star All Conference team a season ago, with Soler named to the All-Academic, All-Sportsmanship and the All-Conference First Team, while Irdoja was All-Academic and an honorable mention pick.
