Baseball Drops Slugfest to #15 Angelo State

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Baseball team played in another slugfest on Sunday, falling 17-12 to #15 Angelo State at Dickson Stadium.

The game featured two rain delays that added up to one hour and 45 minutes, 36 hits, eight errors, seven stolen bases and 10 pitchers on the hill.

The Rattlers (10-16, 8-16 Lone Star Conference) continued to do a great job of hitting with two outs as the first seven of the game and eight of the team's 17 hits came with two outs.

All nine spots in the batting order reached base at least once for the Rattlers and junior Hogan Heller (San Antonio) led the team with four hits. Junior Brendan Concannon (Flower Mound, Texas) added three more, while senior Rudy Solis (El Paso, Texas) drove in a team-high three runs.

Freshman Brennan Greer (San Antonio) fell to 0-3 on the season. He allowed eight runs on nine hits with a pair of walks, coming back to the mound after the first rain delay which lasted 22 minutes. Karlo Kalifa, Braeden Brown, Brody Ticker and Brett Brown all worked in relief with Kalifa pitching the longest at 1 2/3 innings.

The Rattlers once again struck first, plating two runs in the first, but the Rams (20-9, 19-9 Lone Star) answered with three in the top of the second. St. Mary's tied the game with one run in the bottom of the second and regained the lead with three in the third inning. An eight-run fourth gave ASU the lead for good, despite the Rattlers scoring one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh. The Rams added four in the sixth and one each in the eighth and ninth frames for the 17-12 final tally.

StMU heads to Texas A&M International for a four-game series slated to begin on Friday at Noon. The Dustdevils went 1-3 at Oklahoma Christian last week, scoring four runs in the top of the 10th inning on Sunday to sneak out of Oklahoma City with a 6-2 victory.
