Set Your Sights on Baseball in Home Opening Weekend

UT Tyler (2-2, 2-2) at St. Mary's (1-3, 1-3)
Feb. 9-11 // Games 5-8 // San Antonio, Texas // Dickson Stadium

First Pitch

•    With impending weather, there has been an adjustment to the opening weekend home schedule. The doubleheader will now take place on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m., while Saturday a single nine-inning game will begin at 2 p.m.

•    Transfer Brendan Concannon had a great week at the plate for the Rattlers, despite the team dropping three. He hit .583 with seven hits, six runs scored, two RBI and two walks. He was also 2-for-2 in stolen bases.

•    Both the top two hitters in the lineup, Brendan Concannon and Jake Elizondo reached base safely in all four games. The two split the opening series at leadoff and the two spot.

•    The home portion of season 74 begins on Friday against UT Tyler. The Patriots lead the series 7-4. The two teams had never faced off before joining the Lone Star Conference for 2021.

•    Senior Andrew Girod returns for his fifth season of eligibility after being one of the league's best closers in 2023. Girod led the Lone Star Conference and ranked seventh nationally with nine saves. He also ended 2023 ranked fifth on the St. Mary's single-season record list with those nine saves and the 10 saves in his career are ranked fifth all-time.  Girod won the lone game for the Rattlers last week, working two scoreless innings in relief.

•    The Rattlers signed Jaxon Mungia to a letter of intent through Team IMPACT. Mungia is a 10-year-old who is battling a rare form of cancer. His advice heading into the season: "Keep your eye on the ball."

•    Senior Andrew Girod and sophomore transfer Garrett Brooks were named Players to Watch by the Lone Star Conference. Girod is a returning All-Region selection, while Brooks is a transfer from UTSA.
