RICHARDSON, Texas — Playing at home for the first time this season, St. Mary's University Men's Basketball junior Damani Claxton put on a show for the Rattlers fans, earning him Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.

Claxton, a guard from Bronx, N.Y., collected nine steals in the two games (4.5 per game) – including a career-best six in the team's lopsided win over Sul Ross State. His six steals tie for the third-highest total in the Rattlers' DII-era history. He also averaged 15.0 points per game with 4.5 assists in helping the Gold and Blue stretch their win total to three straight.

He swiped the six while only playing 18 minutes, adding 19 points, five assists and a rebound. Against Western New Mexico on Thursday, Claxton scored 11, and recorded four assists, three steals, a rebound and a blocked shot.

Claxton becomes the fourth Rattler in school history to be named LSC Player of the Week for Men's Basketball and the third to earn the defensive award.

Claxton is the Rattlers' leading scorer this season, averaging 15.0 points per game. He also leads with 3.0 assists and 2.43 steals per contest. He and the team have the week off from competition, returning to the court on Monday, Dec. 16 against Midwestern State at 2 p.m.
