SAN ANTONIO — For the second straight season, St. Mary's University Women's Soccer standout
Shelby Paniagua has been named to the D2CCA All-Region team.
Â
Paniagua, a junior midfielder from Cibolo, Texas, led the Rattlers with 22 points, scoring eight goals and adding six assists. She led the nation, going a perfect 5-for-5 in penalty kicks. She is now tied for 10th in school history with 19 career goals, tied for third with 20 assists and tied for seventh with 58 points.
Â
She is a two-time First-Team All-Lone Star Conference selection, and this is her second time being honored on the D2CCA All-Region First-Team. A year ago, she was named to the Second-Team D2CCA All-American squad, and her name will be forwarded to the ballot this year.Â
Â
Paniagua recorded at least one shot on goal in the first 14 contests and in 16 of the 19 this season. She was named to the LSC Offensive Player of the Week after recording a hat trick in the first half against Oklahoma Christian on Nov. 1, surprisingly her only game with a game-winner. She played the entire 90 minutes in six games and is on pace to land atop the school records in games played.
Â
She is one of six repeats to the All-Region First Team from 2023, joining Reese McDermott and Bella Campos from Colorado School of Mines, Sauvelyne Randel from Colorado Mesa, and Taylor Tufts and Parker Coe from DBU. McDermott was named the Player of the Year in the South Central Region.
