Men's Tennis Wraps Up Fall at UIW Tournament

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University senior Daniel Matheu Baldor won the green singles draw at the UIW Fall Tournament to lead the Rattlers.
 
Matheu Baldor won all three of his matches, including a pair over Cardinals from Division I en route to the title.
 
In doubles action, the pairing of junior Bernhard Hauer (Vienna, Austria) and sophomore Leonardo Fabbri (Faenza, Italy) went undefeated in the red draw, dropping only two games in the final two matches en route to the title.
 
"I thought that we would have had a few more of the guys making it past the first round," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "But at least we got a bunch of matches played. It was unfortunate that the fourth team backed out of the tournament, as we ultimately had to face teammates in most of the draws. We did get to see some matchups for the first time this semester though."
 
Freshman Justin Koth (Boerne, Texas) dropped his quarterfinal match in the purple draw, but bounced back to win his next two for a third-place finish. He defeated teammate Ian Freire (Guatemala) in straight sets in the 3-4 playoff.
 
The tournament completes the fall season for the Rattlers. Competition in the spring dual season will begin in February.
