ROCKWALL, Texas — The St. Mary's University Men's Golf team led the field after the first 18 holes but struggled through the next 36, ending the DBU Men's Classic in eighth place with 907 strokes (288-306-313).
Only individual medalist Jordan Wilson from Central Oklahoma finished the tournament under-par. The eighth-ranked golfer in Division II shot a 214 (70-71-73) to win by two strokes. UCO, ranked No. 6 in the nation by Scoreboard powered by clippd, won the team title by 18 strokes over UT Tyler in second.
Junior
Baptiste Touchard (Saint-Agathon, France) once again led the Rattlers, finishing 14th with 223 strokes (74-73-76). Touchard once again shone during the par-four scoring, averaging 4.17 strokes per hole for the sixth-best average in the field, and he led the entire tournament with 41 pars over the 54 holes.
Freshman
Elijah Galvan (Austin, Texas) opened the tournament with his fourth round below par, firing a 71. He ended the week in a tie for 24th place with 227 strokes (71-80-76). Galvan has shot one sub-par round in each of the four tournaments during the fall.
Junior
Kongpop Kaikaew (Rayong, Thailand) posted the lowest round for a Rattler, shooting a 70 on Monday morning. He ended in a tie for 29th place with a 229 (70-78-81). Kaikaew ended in the top 10 in DII players in pars, hitting 33 for the week.
Swedish natives Philip Hallstrom (Gavle) and
Oscar Sandberg (Enkoping) finished one stroke apart as Hallstrom turned in a 234 (77-77-80), while Sandberg carded a 235 (73-78-84).
The DBU Classic concludes the fall competition season for St. Mary's. The team opens the spring with the annual Rattler Invitational at The Dominion Country Club on Feb. 17-18.
