STOCKTON, Calif. — St. Mary's University sophomore
Guillaume Paquette continued to golf well, recording his ninth round of par or better in his last 10 rounds to position himself in a tie for third after the first round at the NCAA West/South Central Regional on Thursday at the Stockton Country Club.
Paquette, a sophomore from La Minerve, Quebec, fired a 69 with three birdies and 15 pars in his opening round and is three shots off the individual lead by Liam Weaver from Cal State San Marcos.
The No. 9 Rattlers struggled a bit on the first day and find themselves in 17th place, 14 shots off the lead by Western Washington, which fired a 283 and leads West Texas A&M by one stroke.
Senior
Kongpop Kaikaew (Rayong, Thailand) turned in a round of 74 and is tied for 58th place. He recorded three birdies but had an uncharacteristic five bogeys.
Seniors Philip Hallström (Gävle, Sweden) and
Baptiste Touchard (Saint-Agathon, France) are tied for 90th place after posting identical rounds of 77, while sophomore
Elijah Galvan (Austin, Texas) did not figure into the scoring on day one after shooting an 80.
St. Mary's returns to the links on Friday for round two of three. The Rattlers will golf with individuals from Hawaii-Hilo and UT Permian Basin and will tee off from the first hole every 10 minutes between 11:10 and 11:50 a.m. (Central time).
