Home Sweet Home: St. Mary's returns to the friendly confines of Sigma Beta Chi Field for three-straight home matches, beginning with Florida Southern on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Rattler close out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Sunday by hosting UCCS at Noon.
Series History: This will be the first-ever meeting between Florida Southern and St. Mary's as well as UCCS and St. Mary's. The Rattlers will be playing its fourth- and fifth-straight first-time opponents this season.
Second Half Push: Five of the team's eight goals this season have happened in the second half. The latest score this season was in the 87th minute by sophomore Eliza Cerda against Mississippi College. On the flip side, the earliest goal scored this year was in the 17th minute in the season opener against East Central by sophomore Shelby Paniagua.Â
Shutting Things Down: Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Difronzo currently leads the Lone Star Conference and ranks 15th nationally with two shutouts. She also ranks second in the league and seventh in the nation in minutes played.
Cheers for Ejere: Now in her third season with the team, the Rattlers have a 13-3-1 ledger when Juni Ejere scores at least one goal. This season, the senior has one goal and one assist.
Holding the Line: Senior Jackie Miller has played all 90 minutes in each of the last three matches and 351 of the possible 360 minutes this season. In two seasons plus four contests, Miller has played 3,549 minutes for the Rattlers, anchoring the defense since 2021. Throughout her career (two seasons at UTEP), Miller has been on the pitch for 5,857 minutes.
Shout Out: Thursday against Florida Southern will be Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night. The Rattlers will give thanks to the professors and staff at St. Mary's who help make life as a student-athlete possible. At halftime, a professor for each student-athlete will be recognized.
Preseason Nod: In the extremely competitive 13-team race, the St. Mary's Women's Soccer team has been selected to finish fifth by the Lone Star Conference. The Rattlers received 339 points, while DBU was chosen to repeat as league champs, garnering 504 points and 37 of the 39 first-place votes. Angelo State (457), West Texas A&M (412) and Lubbock Christian (351) round out the top five.
