RICHARDSON, Texas – Entering the fifth year of competition in the Lone Star Conference, the St. Mary's Volleyball team earned its highest-ever preseason ranking, getting selected sixth in the 17-team league in a vote by the coaches, athletics communications staffs and selected media.

The Rattlers received 494 points, edging out Texas A&M International by one point. Defending national champion West Texas A&M is an overwhelming favorite, garnering 762 points and 42 of the 45 first-place votes. UT Tyler, Texas A&M-Kingsville, DBU and Angelo State round out the top five. DBU received two first-place nods, while UT Permian Basin got one and is picked 13th by the majority of the voters.

In addition to the preseason poll, the league also announced the Players to Watch for the season. Each team has one offensive, one defensive and one setter named to the list. For the Rattlers sophomores
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) and
Dallasstar Johnson (San Antonio) are the offensive and defensive representatives, respectively, while junior
Cali Nims (Corpus Christi, Texas) was chosen at setter.

West Texas A&M's Torrey Miller and Taytum Snow were tabbed the Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year by the voting committee, while Emma Lade was chosen as the Setter from Texas A&M International.

The Rattlers begin their season on Sept. 1 at the Lady Britkare Classic, hosted by top-ranked West Texas A&M. StMU plays Davenport at 9 a.m.
