Volleyball Wins Final Home Game of Season

SAN ANTONIO – For the first time since 2004, the St. Mary's University Volleyball team ends in the W column against West Texas A&M, defeating the Lady Buffs in four sets on Saturday afternoon, 25-21, 27-25, 20-25, 25-17 on Senior Day inside Bill Greehey Arena.

The win snaps an 18-match losing streak to WT and gives the Rattlers a winning record on the season, 13-12 with two matches to play.

StMU was much more efficient on offense on Saturday afternoon, after struggling early on Friday night. The team hit .382 in the first set (17-4-34) and had only one unforced hitting error in the fourth-and-deciding set for a smoldering .406 hitting percentage (14-1-32).

In her final match at home, graduate student Laurene Robinson (Bedford, Texas) recorded her 10th double-double of the season as well as her 10th match with 20+ kills, leading the match with 22 kills and adding 10 digs. She also tied her season-high with five blocks.

Junior outside hitter Taylor Alston (San Antonio) added 11 kills, while freshman Madyson Carr (Houston) recorded seven kills, hitting .375 (7-1-16) and led the match with seven blocks, pushing her past the century mark for season blocks, breaking the StMU modern scoring era season record for blocks by a freshman. She surpasses Dallasstar Johnson's record of 97 from 2022.

Senior setter Haleigh Wilk (Salado, Texas) led the potent attacking offense in her final home match, recording 42 assists. She added three aces, three blocks, seven digs and four kills. Junior libero Kaylee Cavazos (San Antonio) led the team with 14 digs.

After the conclusion of the match, the Rattlers fans said goodbye to the five seniors and two graduate students on the team with a ceremony on Buddy & Anna Meyer Court. In addition to Robinson and Wilk, the team honored Olivia Rubio (San Antonio), Madi Milligan (San Antonio), and Addison Carrillo (San Antonio). Abbey Stiffler (York, Pa.) went through a senior ceremony last year and opted out this year.

The Lady Buffs (12-14, 7-8) were led by Kaycee Cavanaugh with 13 kills, while libero Hannah Pemberton was all over the court, recording 29 of the team's 65 digs. Parker Gladhill chipped in 11 kills and led the team with three blocks.

The Rattlers take to the road for the final time to close out the 2026 season. On Friday the team will face Western New Mexico at 7 p.m. (CT) before rounding out the year at Sul Ross State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
