SAN ANTONIO – For the second time in her career, St. Mary's Women's Tennis standout
Ashley Penshorn has been named an All-American by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Â
Penshorn, a fifth-year senior from Montgomery, Texas, was one of three players from the Lone Star Conference named to the 20-player team. She also earned All-American honors after the 2019-20 season.
Â
In five years with the Rattlers, Penshorn accumulated a 108-26 overall record in singles with an impressive 80-16 mark in duals. In doubles play, she was 92-42 throughout her career with a 64-34 mark in duals.
Â
She is a two-time singles and doubles champion at the ITA Fall South Central Regional and a three-time qualifier for the ITA Cup. She has been named the ITA South Central Region Senior of the Year twice and was recently named the ITA Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship & Leadership Award Winner. She is also a four-time – and will more than likely be a five-time – ITA Scholar-Athlete, a three-time First Team All-Lone Star Conference selection and has twice been named the school's Female Athlete of the Year.
Â
Angelo State's Dianela Rodriguez and Cameron's Vasilisa Polunova joined Penshorn on the Singles All-American team, while the DBU tandem of Angela Charles-Alfred and Jenna Payne were honored on the doubles team.
Â
Penshorn is the first Rattler to become a two-time All-American at St. Mary's and she is the third to earn the honor in singles action. Both Kaylin Kruseman and Tyra Timm were two-time All-Americans in doubles play. Kruseman earned All-American singles honors in 2018, while Mariana Rong was the first in 2013.
