RICHARDSON, Texas — The St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team had a strong finish to the regular season, defeating UT Dallas 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Rattlers earn the fifth seed for the upcoming Lone Star Conference Tournament with the victory, finishing the league season with a 6-4 mark and are 13-10 overall.
St. Mary's swept all three doubles matches to begin the day, with senior
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) and junior
Selina Wu (San Gabriel, Calif.) kicking things off with a 6-1 win on court one.
The pair made quick work in singles play, as Terlizzi lost only one game each set at number one singles, while Wu didn't drop a single game in the double bagel victory on court two.
"We were more aggressive in doubles today, which was good to see," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "That gave us some really good momentum heading into the singles, where I thought everyone played well."
Senior
Gia Posito (Houston) moved up to number three singles for the regular season finale and bounced back after getting blanked in the first set to win the next two 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the victory for the Rattlers.
Freshmen
Sarah Wooten (Beaumont, Texas) and
Breeze Simon (Dallas) also posted straight-set victories at lines five and six, respectively, with Simon losing only three games of the 15.
The bracket for the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis tournament will be announced on Sunday
