GREENSBORO, N.C. – In five years with the St. Mary's Baseball team,
Ryan McGowen committed only four errors in the outfield and he was honored for his steady presence on Thursday, being named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) South Central Region All-Defensive Team.
Â
McGowen (San Antonio) played in 209 games over his five years, starting in 198 with 438 putouts and 11 outfield assists, recording only four miscues over that time – and never making more than one a season.
Â
He is a two-time selection to the Lone Star Conference All-Defensive team and this is his first ABCA honor.
Â
McGowen is one of five Lone Star athletes on the nine man team, joining a trio of Angelo State players and Ethan Flodstrom in the outfield from UT Permian Basin.
Â
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by theÂ
ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee.
