RICHARDSON, Texas – After finishing tied for second in a talented league, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis team saw five named to various Lone Star All-Conference teams on the eve of the Conference Championship.

Both seniors
Ashley Penshorn and
Angela Vargas were named to the All-Conference First Team in singles, while Penshorn and partner
Kyndall Quiroz are on the First Team in doubles. Freshman
Stela Sifuentes earned a spot on the Second Team in singles and is an honorable mention pick in doubles with partner
Gabi Ioannou.

Penshorn, a senior from Montgomery, Texas is a three-time selection to the Lone Star First-Team All-Conference team. She is 29-7 overall with a 20-4 record in duals. In doubles, she and Quiroz (San Antonio) are 28-6 on the year with an 18-6 mark in spring. The pair won the ITA South Central Region Championship in the fall, while Penshorn also won the singles title.

Vargas not only earned a spot on the First-Team All-Conference squad but was also named to the All-Sportsmanship team. The senior from Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico sports a 24-6 overall record with a 19-4 total in duals, has won 11 consecutive matches and is 2-0 against nationally-ranked foes in 2023. A season ago, Vargas earned Newcomer of the Year honors as well as a spot on the Second Team.

Sifuentes, a first-year player from Eagle Pass, Texas won her 20th match of the year in singles on Saturday and is 20-5 overall with a 16-3 mark in duals. She went 8-2 in singles and has won nine of her last 10 matches. She and Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) have put together a 13-1 record in doubles with a 7-1 record against LSC foes to earn honorable mention honors. Ioannou is a three-time selection to the all-league teams, earning honorable mention in singles in both 2021 and 2022 and in doubles in 2022.

The Rattlers begin defense of their Lone Star Tournament title on Thursday at approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday against sixth-seeded DBU.
