Men's Tennis Kicks Off Home Slate with Pair of Matches

NET POINTS

•    The Rattlers open the home portion of the spring schedule hosting Jacksonville on Friday at 4 p.m. and Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

•    St. Mary's is competing against Jacksonville for the first time in dual history and is 10-2 against Our Lady of the Lake after sweeping the Saints last season, winning 7-0 and 5-2 in the two matches at Rohrbach Tennis Stadium.

•    StMU opened the spring with a 9-0 victory over Schreiner in Kerrville last week.     The Rattlers are 18-6 through the six ladder positions in the first four duals of the season. Both Jake Faryniarz and Alvaro Soler are a perfect 4-0 in singles action, while senior Sebastian Azcui is 4-0 in doubles play with three different partners.

•    Junior Nicolas Llosa did not lose a game in singles action against Schreiner in the spring opener at #5 singles. It is his first shutout of the season

•    At the conclusion of the fall season, junior Nicolas Llosa and senior Sebastian Azcui were ranked ninth in the doubles South Central Region, while Alvaro Soler appeared in the singles rankings at #14 and Ryan Koth was ranked 20th.

•    The 17 victories by the Rattlers in 2021-22 were the second-most in StMU history, trailing only the 18 wins by the 2016-17 club.

•    Freshman Bernhard Hauer won the B Draw of the ITA South Central Regional, posting a perfect 3-0 record. Hauer defeated a trio of DBU players to win the title. He received a bye in the first round, won the next two matches in straight sets, and bounced back after falling in the first set of the finals in a tiebreaker to win 6-1 and 10-8.

•    The Rattlers posted a 3-0 record at the Pueblo Duals, defeating Colorado Mesa, 6-1, Colorado College, 5-2 and MSU Denver, 4-3. Both Jake Faryniarz (#5) and Alvaro Soler (#4) were 3-0 in singles play, while Sebastian Azcui and Nicolas Llosa were 2-0 at #3. StMU is now 4-0 all-time against Colorado Mesa, 1-0 against Colorado College and 3-1 over MSU Denver.
