SAN ANTONIO — Only days after final examinations finished, four St. Mary's University Volleyball players earned 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
Juniors
Cali Nims and
Alicia Virthe, along with sophomores
Alyssa Koehl and
Landri Withers were honored on the team, which is selected by athletics communication personnel.
The honor evaluates a player's contributions on and off the field. To qualify, a player must have played at least one year at their current institution, maintain a 3.50 GPA, and be a starter or key reserve player.
Nims, a setter from Corpus Christi, Texas, led the team with 6.00 assists per set and was third on the team in both digs (2.65) and aces (0.26) per set. The exercise and sport science major played in 96 of the team's 101 sets.
Virthe, a psychology major and opposite side hitter from Orlando, Fla., was second on the team with 2.49 kills per set and hit .203 on the year. She added 29 blocks and 65 digs, despite not playing the back row.
Koehl, who also earned Lone Star Conference All-Academic team honors earlier this season, led the Rattlers with 4.57 digs per set and 0.35 aces per set. The exercise and sport science major, hailing from New Braunfels, Texas, also averaged 1.07 assists for the Rattlers.
Withers, an outside hitter from Stephenville, Texas, rounds out the selections for the Rattlers. Also pursuing a degree in exercise and sport science, she led the team with 2.53 kills per set and was second on the team with 2.75 digs per set.
