Opening Tip

•    Without any exhibitions on the slate, Friday will be the first look for anyone at the 2023-24 edition of the St. Mary's Men's Basketball Team. The Rattlers open the year hosting Regis, Colorado School of Mines and Lubbock Christian for the South Central Regional Crossover.

•    The Rattlers are looking for their first-ever victory over Regis in the seventh games between the two South Central Region teams. Saturday will be the fifth time in the nine games against Colorado School of Mines the Orediggers have either been ranked or receiving votes in the NABC Poll.

•    Bubba Meyer was named the team's 17th head coach on March 21, taking over for long-time head coach Jim Zeleznak. Meyer is no stranger to the program, serving as the assistant coach for 22 seasons and playing for StMU from 1998-2001.

•    Coach Meyer named David Lewis as his associate head coach and welcomed back former Rattler student-athlete Kameron Pearce (2013-15) as an assistant coach.

•    The Rattlers return six letterwinners off last season's team and add six newcomers, including four Division I transfers and two JUCO transfers.

•    The 1988-89 NAIA National Championship team will be inducted into the St. Mary's Athletics Hall of Fame the night before the first game. The team went 28-5 overall and 9-1 in conference play, winning their final 12 games of the season.

•    St. Mary's has made at least one three-pointer in 162 consecutive games, dating back to Jan. 14, 2017. A year ago, the Rattlers averaged 6.1 triples per game.

•    The team will celebrate the career of former head coach Jim Zeleznak on Saturday following the conclusion of the game.

•    The 2023-24 season is the 90th season of men's basketball at St. Mary's. The team is 1388-930 all-time.

•    Senior Tyler Caron returns for his senior season after earning Lone Star All-Conference Third Team honors a season ago. Caron averaged 12.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 2022-23, making 56 three-pointers and shooting 88.7 percent from the free throw line.

•    Tyler Caron's 56 triples from a year ago rank 11th in St. Mary's single season history. He now has 110 three-pointers for his career, which ties for 11th in school history. He is 66 shy of the school record of 176 by Tyrell Whisenton (1995-98).
