Men's Tennis Ends Fall on a High Note

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team wrapped up the fall season in spectacular fashion, winning two titles at the Cooper Outdoor Advertising Islander Open, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
The Rattlers were the only Division II school in the field and went a combined 16-8 in singles and 7-5 in doubles with senior Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) winning Flight D with a perfect 3-0 record, while sophomore Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) and senior Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) went unblemished through Flight B in doubles.
 
"It was great to see so many of the guys finish the semester playing at a high level and in great physical condition," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "It was really humid during the tournament and it didn't phase them at all."
 
Junior Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain), Anton, senior Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru), senior Ryan Koth (Boerne, Texas), junior Daniel Matheu Baldor (Madrid, Spain) and senior Ian Freire (Guatemala) all posted 2-1 records over the three days in singles action and Irdoja was 1-2 in Flight A.
 
Llosa and Faryniarz added a 2-1 record in doubles, while the other two teams of Koth and Soler and Matheu Baldor and Freire were each 1-2.
 
The Rattlers kick off the spring season with an exhibition match on Jan. 20 with an exhibition match against UTRGV.
